Storm Shelters

Above Ground Storm Shelters that can also be built inside an existing structure, as shown in the garage photo on right.

ADVANTAGES OF ABOVE GROUND

Handicap accessable, not wet and occupied by unwanted critters i.e. snakes & rats, it has a 1/2" thick Lexan window for you to look out and see when the storm has past, the door opens in to prevent your exit being blocked by fallen debris.

These shelters are constructed on site in five steps;
1. Footing is dug within footprint, 12" deep by 24" wide.
2. Footing and 5" concrete floor slab are poured with rebar installed for the wall connections,
3. Walls are formed using Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF), metal roof pan, 16 gage steel door frame placed, bracing and rebar are installed,
4. 4000# Redi-mix concrete with fiber is pumped into the 6 1/4" wall cavities and the roof, this gives a monolithic pour and solid connection,
5. Install steel door with window and siding.

The entire structure will weigh about 44,000 lbs when completed, plans were extrapolated from FEMA specifications for an ICF Storm Shelter.

SAFE ROOM and place to store valuables is an added advantage of this structure.

Our Standard size is 8' wide by 10' long outside measurment, with about 7 1/2 feet of headroom. We choose this size to allow a family to install bunk beds on both sidewalls and sleep comfortably through the night if necessary.
